LPL 2022 | The rescheduled Lanka Premier League will be played from 6 to 23 December

The Lanka Premier League has finally received an updated schedule and begins Dec. 6 on the island, with the final game scheduled for Dec. 23. With player availability having changed from the original dates, a decision has yet to be made on the lineup of teams.

The Lanka Premier League starts on 6 December according to the new schedule.

The Lanka Premier League has finally received confirmed dates for its third season. It was originally supposed to be held in August. The Sri Lankan authorities decided to postpone the tournament later this year due to the country’s economic and political problems. Already, the organizers of the competition, IPG has announced that the league will be held from December 6 to December 23.

“It’s my pleasure to announce that the LPL will be held from 6th to 23rd December,” LPL tournament organiser Samantha Dodanwela was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

It is not yet known if there will be a new draft to allocate players among the five franchises, as players from the available August players will not be able to participate in the new time slot. The second proposed option is to allow the team to simply re-draft a player who will not be able to participate in the tournament. Instead of starting all over from scratch.

“It is understood that the tournament organisers are deciding between two options: either holding a fresh draft, or going ahead with as many of the available players as possible with only the slots taken up by any unavailable foreign players being re-drafted,” the report read.

Today’s Asian Cup had to be moved from an island nation to the United Arab Emirates to avoid delaying the championship. The reason is the same problems that led to the League’s delay. However, given Australia’s successful tour in July, we can expect Sri Lanka Cricket to organize the tournament without any major problems.
