Australian Women’s National Cricket Team

The Australian Women’s National Cricket team is currently captained by Meg Lanning and coached by Shelley Nitschke. They are the highest-ranked team in both ODIs and T20Is currently. Australia played their first Test back in 1934-35 against England. Australia has achieved emphatic success in both ODIs and T20Is. They have seven ODI World Cup titles and six T20I World Cup titles to their name.

They are the reigning champions of the Commonwealth Games Women.

England Women’s National Cricket Team

The England Women’s National Cricket team represents England and Wales in international cricket. Since 1998, they have been governed by the ECB. They are currently captained by Heather Knight and coached by Jon Lewis. They played their first Test in 1934 against Australia and won it by 9 wickets. They played their first ODI World Cup in 1973 and won it on home soil. Since then they have gone on to win three more World Cup titles, the latest in 2017. They won the inaugural ICC Women’s World T20 in 2009.

Indian Women’s National Cricket Team

The Indian Women’s National Cricket team is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). The team is captained by Harmanpreet Kaur and coached by Hrishikesh Kanitkar. The Women in Blue made its Test debut in 1976 against the West Indies. The side has made it to the World Cup finals on two occasions, losing to Australia by 98 runs in 2005 and losing to England by 9 runs in 2017. India has made it to the finals of the T20I World Cup only once in 2020. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, India bagged the silver medal.

New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team

The New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team, captained by Sophie Devine and coached by Ben Sawyer are also known as the White Ferns. The White Ferns made their Test debut back in 1935 against England and are one of the three teams to have participated in all ten editions of the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The side has made it to the finals on four occasions, winning it only once in the year 2000. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, New Zealand bagged the bronze medal, beating England by 8 wickets in the 3rd place playoffs.

South African Women’s National Cricket Team

The South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team captained by Suné Luus and coached by Hilton Moreeng is organised by Cricket South Africa(CSA). South Africa made its Test debut in 1960 against England, becoming the fourth team to do so. The team played every edition of the World Cup since 1997 and made it to the semis twice. Most recently in the 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games, South Africa secured the 3rd spot in Group B, failing to reach the knockouts.

Sri Lankan Women’s National Cricket Team

The Sri Lankan Women’s National Cricket Team captained by Chamari Athapaththu and coached by Rumesh Ratnayake is organised by Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC). The team made their ODI debut in 1997 against the Netherlands and later that year participated in the World Cup hosted by India. At the T20 World Cup, the team has never progressed past the first round. They played their first and only Test to date against Pakistan in 1998. Sri Lanka finished at the bottom of Group B with no wins in three outings at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team

The Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team is captained by Nida Dar and coached by Mark Coles is organised by Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB). Pakistan made its ODI debut back in 1997 against New Zealand and featured in the ODI World Cup later that year. In its early years, Pakistan were the least competitive side and after its inaugural appearance in 1997, the side did not qualify for another World Cup until the 2009 event. In the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Pakistan secured the bottom spot in Group A with no wins in three games. 

Barbados Women’s National Cricket Team

The Barbados Women’s National Cricket team represents the country of Barbados. The West Indies qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022 on the basis of their T20I rankings.CWI, the games governing body in the Caribbean then had to decide which country would represent them in Birmingham. CWI were to arrange the 2021 T20 Blaze tournament as a qualifying competition for the Commonwealth Games but it did not happen due to Covid-19. Hence, the Barbados Women’s National Cricket team made the cut for the Commonwealth Games as the defending CWI T20 Blaze champions. The team managed to pick up a single win in three games at the 2022 Commonwealth Games but failed to make it to the knockouts.
