About Major League Cricket

Structure of Major League Cricket
The competition adopts a standard round-robin format, ensuring each of the six teams competes against all others once. After the group stage, the top four teams progress to the playoffs, where the victors of the semi-finals ultimately clash in the grand final. A win in any match during the group stage awards two valuable points to the victorious team.
In total, the tournament features 19 exhilarating matches. The initial phase comprises 15 matches, constituting the group stage where every team has an equal chance to qualify. Subsequently, the playoffs consist of four crucial matches: an eliminator, followed by two intense semi-final encounters, leading up to the highly anticipated finale.
History of Major League Cricket
Cricket’s journey to find its footing in the United States has seen several attempts over the years. It all began with Pro Cricket, a short-lived venture that ran for just one season in 2004. Another initiative, the American Premier League, sought to partner with the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) and New Zealand Cricket, modelling itself after pre-existing T20 leagues.
In November 2018, USA Cricket revealed its ambitious plans to establish a domestic T20 league within the country by 2021. The primary objectives were to engage existing cricket fans and attract new ones, while also promoting the sustainable development of cricketing infrastructure across the nation. To materialize this vision, American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) won the bid in May 2019, pledging a substantial investment of US $1 billion to not only support the league but also enhance the U.S. national teams’ capabilities.
In January 2019, USA Cricket took the reins as the new governing board for cricket in the USA, replacing the USACA, which had previously faced expulsion from the International Cricket Council in September 2017 due to governance issues.
Excitement grew when the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) was announced to be hosted at Grand Prairie Stadium from July 13 to 30, 2023. The league’s player draft was scheduled for March 19, 2023, and the crucial ICC sanction was officially granted in April 2023, paving the way for the league’s successful launch in July 2023, commencing on the 13th.

Seattle Orcas
The Seattle Orcas, a distinguished American professional Twenty20 cricket team, participates in the Major League Cricket. San Francisco Unicorns
This American franchise cricket team calls San Francisco, California, its home.
