Structure of Vincy Premier League
Six teams will compete in 30 matches in 10 over matches. The six teams engage in league games on a round-robin basis. The group stage will be followed by the Qualifier, Eliminator, Fifth place decider and Final.
History of Vincy Premier League
In May 2020, Cricket West Indies made an announcement regarding the inaugural edition of the Vincy Premier T10 League, which was scheduled to commence on 22nd May 2020. The primary objective behind the league was to promote and encourage fast-paced cricket in the region, offering entertainment for cricket enthusiasts. Notably, this tournament was the first of its kind where players were not allowed to use saliva on the ball due to health concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The matches, however, were not played behind closed doors; instead, they were open to fans, adding to the excitement and atmosphere. Despite being a relatively lesser-known limited-overs tournament, the Vincy Premier League has been steadily gaining popularity over the years. Let’s take a brief look at the history of the competition and its previous winners:
- 2020: The inaugural edition of the Vincy Premier League in 2020 saw the Salt Pond Breakers emerge victorious as they finished at the top of the regular season table, showcasing their dominance throughout the tournament.
- 2021: The 2021 edition featured an intense final where the La Soufriere Hikers and the Dark View Explorers battled it out. It turned out to be a thrilling contest, with the La Soufriere Hikers clinching a narrow victory by a mere one run in the final.
- 2022: In the 2022 Vincy Premier League final, the La Soufriere Hikers once again showcased their supremacy in close encounters. This time, they faced the Botanical Garden Rangers, and the Hikers secured a five-run victory to lift the trophy for the second consecutive year.
- 2023: The 2023 edition of the Vincy Premier League witnessed the Botanical Garden Rangers making an impressive comeback. Although they finished fourth in the league table, they qualified for the playoffs and subsequently won all their encounters. In the final, they emerged victorious against the Fort Charlotte Strikers, clinching the championship title.

Vincy Premier League Teams
The competition features 6 teams in the competition representing several regions. They are:
Botanical Garden Rangers
Named after an important natural region of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Botanical Garden Rangers reached the final of the 2022 edition. They are the reigning champions of the competition as they won the 2023 edition. Like all teams in the competition, the Rangers’ squad features a good mix of youth and experience. Outside of the West Indies, the most familiar player will be a hard-hitting opening batter – the Spiceman Andre Fletcher.
Grenadine Divers
The crystal clear waters of the Grenadines are perfect for diving and that’s how this particular Vincy Premier League franchise got its name. They’ve yet to really make a mark on this tournament, but there are some impressive players in the Grenadine Divers squad. One of the veterans of all their VPL campaigns to date is all-rounder Asif Hooper who is dangerous with both bat and ball.
Salt Pond Breakers
One of the most attractive areas of the ocean in St Vincent can be found at the Owia Salt Pond. It’s a busy tourist attraction and the spot gave its name to the Salt Pond Breakers.
This is another franchise team with a mix of fringe players. Cricket fans outside of the West Indies may be familiar with Jomel Warrican who played 13 tests for the team between 2015 and 2021.
Fort Charlotte Strikers
A historic town with memorable views, Fort Charlotte lends its name to the Vincy Premier League franchise known as the Fort Charlotte Strikers. Miles Bascombe is an experienced Strikers player and an important batter for the team. Bascombe has played T20 cricket for the West Indies and probably deserved more chances at the international level.
Dark View Explorers
As we’ve just seen, the Dark View Explorers were the beaten finalists in 2022. Dark View is a region that contains two spectacular waterfalls and this is a spectacular squad to match. Look out for the off-spinner Luke Wilson who is a regular wicket-taker.
La Soufriere Hikers
They are very much the team to beat in this competition. They’ve won two editions so we can expect to see them fielding a strong squad each year. Once again, there is a blend of players but this is the most exciting VPL team in terms of emerging young talent.
